Sound Healing

Sound healing is growing more and more in popularity, today more than ever! In a world of increasingly fast-paced lifestyles, increasing availability of fast foods and the rise in global uncertainty, the demanding necessity of maintaining balance and supporting good health has become challenging. Science is finally catching up with traditional practices used for many years involving the mind-body-spirit healing. We encourage you to think in terms of energy, frequency and sound.

Sound has been utilized historically in various cultures as a tool for healing. Whether using Mantras, or the Pythagoras use of interval frequency, the intention is always congruent: to move us from a state of ‘Imbalance’ to a state of ‘balance’. Research today is pointing out to the fact that ‘Illness’ is an inherent manifestation of dis-harmony within the body.

So, what is Sound healing? The word ‘Sound’ is emotive. It originally comes from the Greek, “Art of the Muses”, in other words, the goddesses who embodied and inspired art and literature. Music is neither a creation nor is it a discovery; music is innate in all of us.

Sound healing has also been used in many cultures, as therapy to cure various ailments. In today’s world, music is used for entertainment, for self-expression, for different celebrations and ceremonies and even for communication. Consequently, music therapy or sound healing has been proven to have a strong basis in both human neurology and psychology.

Stress and negativity, overtime, tend to create blockages that cause low energy disturbances and can gradually lead to dis-ease. Sound healing has been founded on the premise that matter vibrates at certain frequencies. Science has further proven that sound impacts substances. With the help of physics, it has been stated that sound travels about four times faster through water than it does through air. It was also proven by Dr. Emoto that sound changes the molecular structure of water. Therefore, to connect the same with flow of energy through our bodies, since our bodies are inherently 70% water, it is not surprising then that sound is becoming a primary choice for natural therapy. This stems from ancient civilizations who have long used sound to heal and access higher levels of consciousness.

One of the preeminent modalities used to bring the body back to its own natural healthy and harmonic resonance, is through sound and vibration utilizing instruments from the like of: singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks amongst other instruments. They work through Sound Vibration by creating a sound texture called overtone. Its deep vibration is transported to our inner cells, inducing a variety of waves that evoke a sense of peace.

The sound generated by the Tibetan singing bowls are classified as a type of energy medicine which promotes non-medicinal healing from stress disorders, various pains, depression and anxiety and most forms of ‘Dis-ease’. Most renowned Cancer prevention centers are adopting utilizing ‘Sound healing’ as a significant part of the healing process for their cancer patients; which are increasingly giving astounding results!

The Gong is scientifically proven to have the benefit of alleviating different types of pains, ranging from physical to emotional and even spiritual pain. The earliest record of the Gong’s existence dates to 4,000 BC. Gongs are integral tools used in restorative meditation practices, different yoga routines and the inner Chakra balancing. Chakras are the internal connections between the energetical aspect of our being and the physical side. Meditative sounds have the potentiality to correct the irregular frequencies of the Unbalanced Chakras.

The Singing Bowl therapy dates to the 12th century and has been adopted in meditation practices and various ceremonial rituals in Tibetan culture. Metal bowls process a profound and deeply penetrating sound that is useful for relaxing the body and repairing the mind.

Vibrations from all the previously mentioned sound modalities are also manifesting their outcome in lowering heart rate variability, reducing out-of-balance respiratory rates and relaxing unstable brainwave patterns in people of all walks of life. When the heart rate is relatively steady, and the breathing is deep and slow, the stress hormone, cortisol (nature’s built-in alarm system) is lowered putting your inner organs in a state of calmness; which has proven to dramatically help align the immune system and it is also where creativity is most abundant. Over time, repeated activation of the stress response takes a toll on the body. When the current frequency that the person vibrates with is disturbed, it causes physical, emotional and even a mental breakdown. Sound healing affects the body in exactly the opposite way, putting the body more in the parasympathetic system and decreasing the sympathetic nervous system drive. This in turn, helps the body to self-repair and prevent further damage. A greater gain is the long-term resilience that can come with regular practice.

There is now wide use of specific sounds and music for:

  • Pain management

  • Sleep disorders

  • Autism

  • ADD/ADHD

  • PTSD (including anxiety, grief and anger)

  • Dementia

  • Brain injuries and disorders

Neurologically speaking, all our organs are connected through our Vagus nerve, which in turn responds to sound. Additionally, sound could balance our brain hemispheres, and increase neuroplasticity.

Was the tuning of modern music standardized to manipulate human consciousness?

Our subtle body is our authentic and energetic body. This precious body is where our life force energy exists – commonly referred to as Qi, Chi or Prana.

Following that sound comes at different frequencies, we too (humans) emit our waves. Healing with sounds takes place when we match our inner frequencies to those that are conducive towards healing, recovery and relaxation.

Sound is a physical vibration, that permeates the universe. Sound frequencies affect everything around us from water molecules to living organisms. Certain frequencies are believed to have embraced special significance in relation to the universe. For example, the frequency 432 has been linked to various numerical synchronicities. Thus, matching the frequencies belonging to healthy resonance can provide relief from stress. Consequently, with sound we can shift our energy from low to high, removing the low frequencies of negative notions from the likes of fear, anger and resentment.

Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency. The brainwave can attune to it gradually. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and then it becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep, where internal healing can occur). When the brain is in the Theta state, it is induced into a peaceful state coupled with clarity of mind and intuition.

In the ancient Hindu timeline, cosmic cycles are measured in multiples of 432,000 years. 432 is also found in measurement of time and distance, from the moon and the sun to the speed of light. But it also resonates with another important frequency, known as the Schumann Resonance. This is the frequency of Earth’s atmosphere which sits around 8 Hz. In the brain, this is the frequency where alpha waves begin. The alpha state is known to be the place where we access our creativity. These synchronicities indicate that music tuned to 432 Hz may create a more powerful experience. But over the 21st century, music was standardized to be composed and performed with a tuning at 440 Hz; implying a general deviation from a composition of 432 Hz, a frequency which resonates with the vibration of our planet.

At GTRANCE, you can embark on a journey through deep breathing and tone vibrations to enter higher levels of consciousness whilst experiencing inner transformation. Experience a guided sound journey to enter a full body sensory experience and a state of total relaxation and rejuvenation.
